First Step

Every structure has an origin, although we are rarely able to recognise it while it is taking place.

This photograph belongs to one of the earliest journeys that would eventually give rise to CHRONOX. At that time, neither the works, nor the project, nor the questions that would later emerge from it yet existed. There was only the impulse to walk into the mountains and dedicate time to something that still had no defined form.

Over the years, I came to realise that this gesture contained far more than it seemed. It was not simply the beginning of a material search, but the start of an ongoing relationship between time, matter and human action.

Every work requires a form in order to become visible. Every investigation requires a point of departure. This image records that moment.

The moment when something began that is still continuing today.
