Trace

Every surface preserves traces of what has taken place upon it.

This photograph arises from an observation that runs throughout CHRONOX: the capacity of matter to retain records of what it has endured.

Trees preserve within their structure the consequences of growth, climate, injury and the passage of time. In a similar way, people carry experiences, decisions and events that remain present long after they have occurred.

A trace is not defined by the moment in which it appears, but by its ability to endure.

Perhaps this is why so much of our identity is shaped not by what happens to us, but by what continues to accompany us through the years.
